Today I want to talk about Hot Wheels 50th Anniversary because today, May 18th, 2018, is their 50th Anniversary! They are celebrating all year long but today is obviously special. 50 years ago, Hot Wheels came out with their first every diecast vehicle, the Camaro. And ever since then, they have been making kids and adults everywhere happy. To celebrate this achievement, they are going across the United States to show off their life-size Hot Wheels but also to give fans everywhere a chance make their custom cars a Hot Wheel!
My fiance and I had a chance to attend their first stop on the Legends Tour, Los Angeles. Which was down the street from the Mattel store and HQ! And it was pretty awesome! To see our favorite Hot Wheels come to life and to check out the cars that were entered into the contest!
So what is this contest I speak of? Well, Hot Wheels wants to turn one lucky fan’s car into a Hot Wheel! Each stop on the tour will have one winner and all the winners will have their car displayed at SEMA in Las Vegas at the end of the year where they will choose one winner who’s car will turn into a Hot Wheel! “The SEMA Show is the premier automotive specialty products trade event in the world. It draws the industry’s brightest minds and hottest products to one place, the Las Vegas Convention Center. In addition, the SEMA Show provides attendees with educational seminars, product demonstrations, special events, networking opportunities and more” (thesemashow.com). Also, it isn’t opened to the public so to have your car there is huge in the automotive industry.
What to expect at these shows? A lot of cars! From new school to old school to life-size Hot Wheels, you will see everything there is to see. Even Robert Downey Jr. personal car made an appearance! There is a DJ, photo ops, kid zones and a chance to buy exclusive tour merch. And of course, if you enter your car and get chosen to display it, you will get VIP access to their after party! Check down below to see photos from the L.A. stop as well as to see where the tour is going!
